Conspiracy theories: everybody has heard of them but what outlandish ideas keep THS students up at night, and more importantly, why?
Starting with why these eccentric theories are taking afloat in people’s minds.
Zackary Pittiis, AP Psychology teacher at THS shares, “As social animals, humans desire like minded groups for affirmation and perhaps that stems from evolutionary survival.”
After interviewing various THS students on what conspiracy theories they believe in, this is what they had to say.
Sophomore Alessia Ferruli’s shares her favorite conspiracy theory, saying, “I think there are more colors than the human eye can see, and we just interpret them as grey and black.”
Another anonymous sophomore strongly believes that, “P Diddy killed Tupac.”
On the other hand, sophomore Jhianna states, “I think that Walt Disney was frozen under Disneyland and that’s why they made the movie Frozen.”
Lastly, sophomore Maya Tengis believes that, “The moon landing was fake.”
Obviously, conspiracy theories can have a spectrum of rationality, some theories leaning towards fiction while others are based on facts.
“It’s probably less frightening to believe a conspiracy than to believe the world is unpredictable” Pittis says.
It’s not uncommon to for people to unconsciously fear the world, which ultimately leads to the increasing belief of conspiracy theories in present day.
