The Future of Tahoma (with Mrs. Beliveau)

Stop right there!

Are you concerned about the future of Tahoma? If so, you’ve come to the right place.

As of next year, Tahoma High School’s changing it up as Mr. Terry Duty steps down as Principal and Mrs. Judy Beliveau steps up to the plate as our new Principal.

Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to schedule an in-person interview with Mrs. Beliveau but she was gracious enough to answer my questions by email.

  1. What do you hope to accomplish next year as principal, as it relates to student belonging?

“This is a really important question! One thing our students have reported on the survey this year and consistently prior to Covid is that they don’t always feel noticed and appreciated for their good work and contributions. Our Belonging Committee and staff will be using this information to continue to find ways to celebrate our truly amazing students!”

  1. I heard you are hosting a meet and greet next week, what do you hope will occur?

“I’m really excited about the upcoming meet and greets because our students are insightful and fun! I’m hoping for students to get to know me a bit better, for me to get to know them a bit better, and to understand what students view as our strengths and needs at THS.”

  1. What do you believe to be the most important goal the high school should focus on next year?

“Each year our school sets goals for our Site Plan. This is goal setting in relationship to the 5 TSD goals – Climate/Culture, Partnerships, Wellness, Equity and High Expectations/Growth. We are using results from the recent ‘What are you looking for in the next THS Principal’ survey and as a staff are working to determine a goal which will be accessible to all curricular teams and groups at our school. It will likely focus on empowering all kids to be college, career, and life ready. This work will be done by the time we leave in June. I’ll be getting feedback from parents at an upcoming PTA meeting and from students in the next month.”

I’m so excited for Tahoma’s bright future, but I’m sad that I cannot be here to see it since I’m graduating this year. If you see Mrs. Beliveau be sure to congratulate on her new position! In fact, I recommend signing up for the meet and greets she will be hosting on April 28 (this Thursday), May 5, and May 19. Sign up sheets are outside of the Future Ready Center. The meetings will all be held during Power Hour B in the FRC.

Once again, congratulations Mrs. Beliveau and I wish nothing but success for the future!
