The week of the 29th, a new A24 movie will be released; Backrooms. This movie is based on pieces of old collaborative internet fiction. Around 2019 is when this concept started to become popular online. Essentially, the backrooms are an alternate, extradimensional, empty space where one who enters feels uncanny.
In the early concepts, the backrooms were just one neverending, yellow room with dim fluorescent lights. However, people have made many new “levels” to them, each level having their own survival rates and different “entities”.
This movie is Kane Parsons’s (the director) first film. Back in 2022, he made a YouTube short film called “The Backrooms (Found Footage).” He used skills that he taught himself to create this. This short went viral, prompting Parsons to make a whole series out of it.
Producers like Chris Fergusan, James Wan, and Osgood Perkins saw Parsons talent and offered him partnership to adapt the series into a feature film.
Casting
Recently the cast list has been revealed. There has been a lot of talk about a specific actor; Robert Bobroczkyi. Although it has not been revealed who he will be playing exactly, however many people assume he will be playing an entity in the movie.
Some say that it was a mistake to make an entity character in general. However, Lucy Bunker says that it was a good decision because “there wouldn’t be a whole lot of plot without an entity.”
Some also believe that Robert is perfect for this role because of his appearance. He is 7’7’’ and 25 years old. He is known for his role in Alien: Romulus where he played the “Offspring”.
Controversies
Some are nervous for the release of this movie because they aren’t sure it will live up to the endless stories created online. A student who wishes to remain anonymous says that she isn’t so sure the movie will be so good. She’s worried that the videos online will not compare to the movie.
While this is a possibility, it is good to keep in mind that the producer of this movie is the one who created one of the most memorable and popular Backrooms series that the public enjoyed.
