A Letter to Tahoma Sophmores

Kylie Miller, Editor

Hello Tahoma Sophomores,

My name is Kylie, I’m a proud writer and editor for Tahoma News, I’m a senior this year, and on my way out of this school and into the real world. I’ve already written to the freshman so now it’s time for me to help you guys out, so here are some lessons, tips, and tricks for surviving your sophomore year. The first thing I have to tell you guys is that you need to be more responsible. People tend to be a little easy on freshmen, teachers and admin give freshmen more leeway. That all changes this year. Now teachers expect you to have your stuff together and have figured things out, you’ve been in high school an entire year, expectations are higher and you guys are going to have to be aware of that.

With that being said, I do need to encourage you guys to have fun because sophomore year truly is one of the most fun years of high school. You don’t have to stress about the SAT or ACT, college is still far away, and now some of you can drive, so I urge you to have fun this year because, after this, things get serious. Additionally, this is the time for you to start thinking about career options, you don’t have to figure out what you want to do with your life yet, but start exploring different potential career paths. If you’re thinking about working in law try out Traffic Court, wanna start your own business, join Future Business Leaders of America. Now is your time to try things and introduce yourself to all the different people at Tahoma.

Don’t slack on your habits though, it can be easy to just screw around this year, but try and keep your grades up, colleges are always watching, and while we’re on the topic of academics, we need to talk about the PSAT. I took the PSAT as a sophomore and I would encourage you to take it too but under specific conditions. First, don’t study for it, take it just to see where you’re currently at regarding the contents so then you know what to study for. Additionally, don’t stress about it, colleges will not be able to see your score unless you give it to them, so you don’t have to worry about what you get. Well, sophomores, that’s all I have for you, 3 more years to go, and then you’re outta here. Have fun and make the most out of your time in High School.

     With love,

            Kylie Miller
