    ELL STUDENTS

Many schools have this class which is ELL stands for(English Language Learners) or ELS (English Second Language). This refers to students who are unable to communicate fluently or learn effectively English, who often come from non-English-speaking homes and backgrounds, and who typically require specialized or modified instruction in both the English language and in their academic courses. This class helps the students learn the language and how to communicate with people. In Tahoma High School we have that program, which the teachers help the students with the English grammar, vocabulary including listening, writing and speaking skills. In Tahoma High School we have Audrey S.A she is from France she speaks Chinese, Korean and French “It’s really hard to communicate with students specially with teachers”. We also have Cheril Huang she is from Taiwan and she says that the most difficult part is the speeding of people talking, but they said that the students from Tahoma High School help them if they have a question or they don’t understand something. They are trying their best to learn the language fast to understand the language with more clarity. Some ELS students come from homes in which no English is spoken, others have been exposed to or use multiple languages, while their numbers continue to rise quickly, the evidence on what works best to help non-native speakers become proficient in English particularly the more formal academic language needed for school success has been harder to come but also it’s hard to fit in society. Many people come from different countries to have a better future for them but specially for the children. They want a better education and a better life, but obviously they need to adapt to the culture and learn the language that they speak in that country. The struggle that they go through its hard but being a foreign student it gives them a lot of opportunities, for example they can have a better job because they can manage two languages but also being able to write in English which for most of them it’s the harder part or the pronunciation of the words.
