With May approaching, many AP classes are wrapping up their new material, and are preparing students to study for their respective AP test.
AP classes are made to prepare their students for the AP test, as their scores can be used for college credit, or at least look good on their resumes to colleges, so their test scores are very important.
But how prepared are the AP students so far?
Well out of the four interviewed AP students, two of them—Karn Neiley, and Lazarus Necesito—gave a solid eight of ten for how prepared they feel before studying.
Sen Bradshaw gave “a solid six,” as they’ve just “never done it [the AP test] before, so I feel confident during the classes, and I think I remember it really well.”
Zaylie Rasmussen was the only interviewee to not be already confident with what they’ve learned, saying: “three, because I know if I say I’m confident more then I’m going to absolutely bomb it, confidence kills me.”
The two interviewed AP teachers gave similar numbers for how prepared they feel their students are currently, as Zachary Pittis, an AP psychology teacher, thinks that his students are at a six, and “most of them will be in the eight to ten range” after studying.
Robin Hall, an APUSH teacher gave a similar sentiment, stating: “So we have half of the period to go, I’m reading DBQs right now, I think they look really good, so I’m going to put us at a 7.5.”
So at this point students and teachers feel pretty confident going into studying, and most of the interviewed students are planning to study extensively.
Most of the interviewees were also aiming for a high score, like Neiley who is aiming for “hopefully a five [AP test score] on all of them.”
But where their answers start to differ more, is in their main concerns.
Neiley’s main concern is “non-conventional tests, I think AP lit is pretty straight forward … AP seminar has a different format though, and I’m just not as familiar with that compared to the other tests.”
Bradshaw is concerned with DBQs, as they “are really annoying to write, and my ela brain can’t not try to make it a good essay.”
Hall is concerned that her students might forget something simple on the test as they get more tired and are under a lot of pressure towards the latter half of the test.
Though all of the interviewed students had at least one class they were confident they would score good in.
