With the end of the semester in sight, students are already thinking about what the next semester will bring.
So, what are juniors’ hopes and concerns for the next semester?
Naturally, their most prominent concerns and hopes are centered around grades. Whether they’re hoping to raise their GPA, or concerned about their grade dropping before the semester ends, a lot of their attention has been focused on grades.
One junior, Katherine Marshall, stated “I want good grades,” because “good grades kinda make everything in life easier; like, if you have bad grades, your life is kinda cooked.”
Some juniors are focused on getting the best grades they can, such as Ben Dodge who hopes “to get all my grades to As,” along with trying to “get enough credits to hopefully, fingers crossed, [have] enough … to skip two years of college.”
Others have different standards for success. For example, Zaylie Rasmussen is focused on “getting higher than Cs in my classes”, or as Marshall Black put it, “maybe like actually passing my classes.”
Other concerns and hopes are primarily focused around workload and the difficulty of classes. For instance, Ethan Ryll sees the new semester as “a fresh start for my GPA, or a fresh start because I don’t have to work as much.”
On the other hand, Tyler Hawley is concerned “that classes are going to get harder.” He’s especially concerned, because he’s “got a bunch of competitions for band … I will have to miss a lot of school days, I think like five school days in March to go to competitions, so making that up is not going to be fun.”
Dodge has similar concerns about his extracurricular activities, stating: “I’m concerned robotics is going to take away from my grades.”
However, not everyone is entirely focused on grades, such as Lazerous Necesito, who is concerned “that the entire country is going to collapse before I get a chance to do anything,” and has several hopes, such as: “don’t die, graduate with good grades, get a job.”
Hawley wants to “keep my perfect attendance running because this will be my third year having it,” and to “listen to [a new] album everyday.”
Finally, some juniors are looking forward to their new classes, like Ryll who is “taking UN, international relations class. I’m personally really interested in geopolitics, and I think that’s going to be really interesting.”
