Over the past week, the Governor of Texas, Greg Abbott, ordered the mobilization of the Texas National Guard and seized control of a border park, obstructing Federal Border Patrol and causing dismay amongst the residents of the border town.
This comes after President Joe Biden ordered the Border Patrol to remove the razor wire that Abbott had placed in the Rio Grande River, dividing Texas from Mexico.
Biden had said the razor wire was a violation of human rights. The wire placed children and families crossing the border in life threatening situations, often resulting in death.
The situation resulted in the Supreme Court, in a 5-4 vote, ordering Texas to stand down their National Guard and allow the Federal Border Patrol Agents to enter the park and remove the razor wire from the waters.
However, it appears that Governor Abbott does not want to listen to the Supreme Court or the President, as they have kept their guard mobilized and they remain in the border park, all in spite of the city mayor’s wishes as well.
Entering into an election year, it is possible this is a smoke and mirrors campaign to gain support for Donald Trump and tarnish even further the reputation of President Biden.
At this point, the Federal Government appears to not be showing much strength toward the ongoing situation, with Biden making a post on X, formerly Twitter, asking the Republicans in congress to help with his border bill.
This request appears to fall on deaf ears, as Texas refuses to acknowledge the Supreme Court’s order and other Republican Governors offer their support, and State National Guards, to Texas.
Democrats in Texas and throughout the country are calling on President Biden to Nationalize the guard and take control of the situation, while Republicans in the state warn that would be an overreaching of Federal power, and could start a Civil War.
While the situation is ongoing, it is clear that neither the Biden Administration nor the Texas Government are going to be backing down.

Although I’m not so much into politics, it’s educating to see the balance of America, and how it’s being affected. This is very educational, and good job on using the correct terms to address these groups!
