With the emergence of the NFL Draft Combine, the Seahawks face several questions that must be answered in order to determine their own future. In order to display potential draft targets for the Seahawks analysis of the roster needs to be done. After a disappointing season two things are for certain, the Seahawks are in desperate need of offensive line and defensive line talent. The Seahawks ranked 31st in the league for rushing yards allowed, allowing a staggering total of 138.4 rushing yards per game. To add on top of this, the offensive line stood out as one of the worst offensive lines in the league. Now why is this? There is talent in both rooms, however, a lack of depth was apparent and a combination of poor coaching didn’t do either position groups any favors. Besides a potential investment into the quarterback position, time will tell the other immediate needs after free agency.
So, who could the Seahawks look to target at pick 16? Cameron Weisberg had this to say on a potential target, “I think the Seahawks should look to target Troy Fautanu, or trade back and get him a bit later.” The local offensive linemen played at the University of Washington for his entire college career, proving to be one of the best offensive tackles in the country the last two years. The Seahawks already have their two offensive tackles of the future, but that isn’t a problem. Troy Fautanu projects to play guard in the NFL due to his lack of height at the offensive tackle position. Guard is a huge need for the Seahawks, pairing Fautanu’s potential with the two young tackles could result in a notable increase in offensive line play next season.
There’s also been an emergence from the fanbase pushing for the Seahawks to draft a quarterback in this year’s draft. While doing that may prove to be difficult due to where the Seahawks pick is located, one prospect in particular is intriguing. His name, Michael Penix Jr. “I want Michael Penix, he could be a steal.” Another Washington Husky could be a name to watch for the Seahawks, with the official hiring of Ryan Grubb, the former offensive coordinator for the Huskies. Nobody knows how to utilize Michael Penix like Ryan Grubb. If the offensive genius could get 75% of the success Penix had in college to the NFL, the Seahawks could be a serious threat in the immediate future. However, Penix by no means is a perfect prospect. His college career was riddled with season ending injuries, not only did he face injuries, he often displayed mechanical issues resulting in missed throws. Yet, the thought of reuniting the local talents on the Seahawks is super intriguing. Time will tell what the Seahawks future holds.
