The Seattle Kraken will be dropping the puck at center ice on Tuesday, October 17th at 7:00 PM at Climate Pledge Arena located in the heart of Seattle Washington.
After being on the road for two weeks, the Seattle Kraken are finally home and ready to faceoff with the Colorado Avalanche who won the Stanley Cup Championship in 2022. This looks to be an exciting match up as both teams have very talented rosters. There is no doubt that Kraken fans are excited for this match up. Because of the Seattle Kraken being established 3 years ago, the sport of hockey in the state of Washington has grown significantly with more fans and players than before. The Seattle Kraken roster is not only talented but inspiring to young fans who are just getting a glimpse into the world of hockey and might be inspired to play. A local Seattle Kraken fan and hockey player for Sno King Hockey, Chloe Pearcy, a Freshman at Tahoma High School, plans on watching the game on Tuesday night, but, she also credits the Seattle Kraken as an impact in her hockey career. “The Kraken have had a huge impact on me as a hockey player. In fact, if it weren’t for the Kraken, I probably wouldn’t have started playing hockey again. I played a bit when I was younger but back then, it just wasn’t for me, so I quit and moved on. However, when we started going to the Kraken games, seeing all of them playing on the ice gave me a lot of inspiration to start playing again, so I did. I’ve learned a lot from the Kraken and I can’t wait to watch and learn more!” The Seattle Kraken haven’t just inspired Pearcy, but also her teammates and her friends. “The Kraken have inspired so many youth hockey players, including me. Many of my hockey friends and I really look up to all the Kraken players and make it our biggest dream to someday play like them.”
There is a lot to look forward to when going to a Kraken game. The interactive crowds, the amazing food, the live music, and most of all, the game itself, the teams and the players. “I’m most excited to have another great season with the kraken. I’ve been following them since the start of the team and it has been so much fun being able to watch them grow and play as a team and I’m so excited to see more of it.” What Pearcy says fans should look forward to this season is seeing the new players. She says that the team has definitely changed and she’s ready to see how they do and that’s something fans should be looking forward to as well.
“I think some key players would be Grubauer and Burakovsky because Gru (Grubauer) is going to have to work really hard on blocking shots and Burakovsky is going to have to score us some points!”. In the 2022-2023 season, The Seattle Kraken were 46-28-8 and finished 4th in the Pacific Division. Whereas the Avalanche were 51-24-7 and finished in 1st place. The Avalanche had a much better power play percentage than the Kraken at 24.52%, the Kraken at 19.75%. The Avalanche also had a higher penalty kill percentage of 79.03%, the Kraken at 76.69%. These stats make for an interesting matchup during Tuesday nights game. Although the Kraken have had a bit of a rough start to the season, Chloe is hopeful that the Kraken will win the match up against Colorado. “I think the Kraken will win the game. I know we have had a bit of a rough start to the season but I think we could make a big comeback!”
Tahoma students can find Pearcy at Kraken games often, as her and her family are season seat holders. “Going to Kraken games with my family has brought us together so much and it is one of our favorite family activities to do. My dad has always been into hockey so when he heard Seattle was getting an NHL team, he was extremely excited and so were we! We immediately bought season tickets and started going to as many games as we could.” Attending Kraken games at Climate Pledge arena is a lively experience, but, if you are unable to attend the game in person, you can tune in on Root Sports or ESPN to watch the game from home with your family and friends. The puck drops at center ice at 7:00 PM on Tuesday, October 17th. Wherever you’re watching from, make sure to support the Kraken and cheer them on as they battle against the Avalanche.
