Interact Club hosted their first drive of the year, and it was all about menstruation products. All proceeds went to Corner of Love, a mission focused on service trips in South America. The club was taking donations outside of Fred Meyer and at Tahoma Girls Basketball games.

Up to Feb. 10 the Interact Club was accepting physical menstruation products in Mr. Baker’s room (room 227). Baker was “very excited [about] the total cash donations” the Maple Valley community brought forth. The Interact Club officers and volunteers worked hard to successfully advertise and put together the drive. Their ultimate goal was to send “8 suitcases full of feminine hygiene products” to Nicaragua through Corner of Love, said Baker.

The Maple Valley community was thrilled with the focus of the drive considering lack of access to feminine hygiene products is a large issue internationally. Volunteer, Sereniti Sinthavong, said “I was intrigued to volunteer for this drive because we don’t usually see feminine hygiene being advocated for.” Continuing to utilize resources and abilities for global issues, is the stepping stone to combating international disparities.

If you missed out on supporting the Feminine Hygiene Drive this February, there is still more to look forward to. The Interact Club is in the process of putting together a used sneaker drive for the Spring! Be sure to look out for Random Acts of Kindness that will be happening on Feb. 28.
