Suicide Prevention Poem

Suicide Prevention Poem

Jenna Hunt, Journalist

Suicide is becoming more common around us today. Senior Lexi Beu wrote a poem about suicide prevention to be a call of action for people that might be struggling.

Suicide is linked to mental disorders like depression, anxiety and suicidal depression. 90 percent of people have experienced some form of mental illness. The mental illness alone does not lead to suicidal behavior. The distress associated with a mental illness may result in suicidal feelings and behaviors.

The questions I asked Lexi were: Why did you write this poem? And what impact does this poem have?

“I wrote this poem as a message for suicide awareness and prevention and to be a call of action of sorts for those who know someone or is suspecting someone to be suicidal. The impact that I hope this poem might have on the audience is again, that call to action but also to be a voice for those who might be struggling to find theirs in this situation.” From senior Lexi Beu.

There needs to be more suicide prevention in our world. More people the must get the help they need. This poem is a good call to action for people that may be struggling. It is a good voice for people who can’t find theirs in this situation.

Overall Lexi’s poem spreads prevention and awareness for suicide. It is an uncomfortable topic to talk about. Most people are quiet about it and people don’t get the help they need. Although this poem is a call of action for people that are struggling to find their voice in this situation, I hope this article will inform people to get help if they are struggling with suicidal depression. We all hope they find their voice for true suicide prevention. https://youtu.be/djg2LhRV3CM
