How to create delicious peanut butter and jelly bat cookies

Sophie Anselmo, Staff

Since we have crossed the threshold of Autumn, it is about time to create a deliciously spooky snack to enjoy during chilly fall days. Presented here is instructions on how to turn a regular peanut butter cookie mix into an appealing treat to enjoy!

Materials

  • Toothpick
  • A peanut butter cookie mix
  • Vegetable Oil
  • Water
  • Jam of your choice (although strawberry or raspberry is recommended)
  • A single egg
  • A bat-shaped cookie cutter
  • A silicone cookie sheet
  • Rolling pin
  • Frosting and sprinkles (optional)

Directions

First, preheat the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Combine the cookie mix with two tablespoons of vegetable oil, along with three tablespoons of water and the egg. Stir well within a mixer, or with your own spoon until a thick dough begins to form.

When the dough has been completely formed, take the bowl and chill it in the fridge for fifteen minutes. Remove the dough and prepare the silicone mat onto a pan. Use the rolling pin to flatten the dough to a quarter of an inch. Use the bat-shaped cookie cutter to carefully cut out shapes. Peel away the remaining dough and place the pan in the oven. Bake for nine minutes. Then, remove the cookies to cool. Once the cookies have completely cooled, dip the toothpick into the jam of your choice. Use the toothpick to dot out the eyes of the bats, and from there add as much jam as desired. Icing and sprinkles would also be wonderful touches to the cookies.

Once cooled and decorated, enjoy the cookies! They’re great for last-minute baking goods, desserts or snacks to bring to parties or events. Black, brown, or purple, these cookies can be decorated any color. Have a happy fall!
