Hellfest, the newly released movie, was gut-wrenching and consisted of plenty of jump scares; the film highlights your worst fears of going to a haunted house or maze.  In the movie, a group of six unlikely friends decide to go to a popular traveling horror event called Hellfest. They enter the ominous carnival and the story shifts when a mysterious figure enters and disguises himself as one of the actors. As the movie unfolded, it was revealed to the audience that the mystery man had far worse intentions than enjoying a night of haunted fun.

The gore factor is pretty high. There are definitely some parts that are best watched behind closed or covered eyes. The film also had a spooky realness to it and relatable and likable characters. However, there was little background or motive given to the characters, leaving the plot line faulty and undefined. Bad things seem to happen to the protagonists, but there’s little reason why it is happening. Furthermore, the movie was unoriginal and had some pretty cheesy parts, making it predictable. The audience  could guess who would die next and they’d probably be right. But, this wasn’t due to the actors performance, rather this was due to predictable and derivative writing. The most surprising part comes at the end, when a twist is revealed and the audience is  left wanting more.

Hellfest, in theaters now, does little to rise above other Halloween films, but will definitely make you think twice about going to the next haunted house or carnival that moves into town. There are definitely far worse ways to spend your night than by watching Hellfest.
