This year in the NBA there have been plenty of surprises. It seems that the “old generation” consisting of LeBron, Durant, Curry, and others are one foot out the door. It has been clear that a quote on quote “new generation” is moving in. Of this new generation, one player has taken a large jump and has caught many’s attention.
This player is the Minnesota Timberwolves’ own, Anthony Edwards. He has exploded onto the scene this year in incredible fashion. The Timberwolves have gone past expectations to becoming one of the top teams and Edwards is the clear leader of that team. This is why many believe he will be the next face of the league.
Edwards possesses the persona that no other player in the league has. It is impossible to not be impressed by both his play and his personality. He is the type of player that a coach would love to have on their team. He refuses to sit out games, he has a competitive spirit, and he can do everything on the court. He has no fear of any player.
In this year’s playoffs, he went directly at Kevin Durant and completely outplayed him. With this kind of competitive nature and mentality, he has been compared to both Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant. He will do whatever it takes to win the game, but the difference between him and those all-time greats is Edwards does it with a smile on his face.
As stated earlier, he has caught the attention of many fans. Diego Flores, an avid NBA fan, is in complete awe. “He is just a flat-out phenomenal player. At first, I didn’t believe in the hype but I was wrong. He reminds me so much of Jordan, it is just uncanny.” Diego is not the only one who has something to say about Edwards.
Greg Carothers, a die-hard Michael Jordan fan, had some thoughts. “The way Anthony Edwards approaches the game and just wants to murder the other team, it is hard not to make comparisons between him and Jordan.”
It is Anthony Edwards’ show time. He will be the next face of the NBA.
