Spring practice has gone better than expected for the Huskies, to start spring ball there were several questions surrounding the team. Many questions are still left unanswered, however, the team has developed an identity. The defense has been standing out in practice for the Huskies, in particular, the defensive back room. The defensive back room is full of talented players such as, Ephesians Prysock, the transfer from Arizona. Elijah Jackson, a returning starter. As well as up and coming freshman like Leroy Bryant and Jordan Shaw. When asking Cameron Weisberg about the potential of the defensive back room he had this to say, “I think they could be one of the best in the B1G 10 conference.” Luckily for the Huskies, a step up on the defensive side of the ball was badly needed, especially this season. With notable players like Rome Odunze, Michael Penix Jr., and Ja’Lynn Polk all leaving for the draft next year, the huskies will be rebuilding their offense. But, don’t underestimate them. The transfer wide receiver Jeremiah Hunter Jr. from Cal has been standing out, he had 703 yards and 7 touchdowns last year for the Golden Bears. With the quarterback room in the position it’s currently in, Hunter should be a prime candidate for even more offensive production. Hunter isn’t the only receiver standing out. Local standout receiver Denzel Boston has made tons of plays in practice, including a one handed catch for a touchdown. But, the expectations are low for the Huskies. “I’d say they probably win 5-6 games next year.” The reason for the low expectations stems from the offensive and defensive line. The Huskies lost almost every linemen on the offensive line this offseason. As a result, the offensive line has visibly struggled in spring practice. With the emergence of the spring transfer portal, the Huskies will be forced to bring in multiple guys. The Huskies also lost two of their productive edge rushers during the offseason, in Bralen Trice and Zion Tupuola-Fetui. There is talent in the Huskies edge room, but questions still surround their ability to replace those two former players. Overall, the Huskies roster has a lot of untapped potential, with the upcoming season expectations are all over the place. If the coaching staff maxes out the roster’s talent, 8 to 9 wins isn’t out of the realm of possibility.
