Recently, there was a fun activity called Camp Casey that some Tahoma High School students were privileged with the acceptance of going to. At Camp Casey, the selected students were counselors for about 3-5 fifth grade campers from the Tahoma School District. Claire Bonte and Stella Barry were asked a few questions about how the trip went and what they would advise for future students that would like to be counselors.
Stella Barry was asked what she would rate her experience at Camp Casey on a scale of 1-10, 10 being the bestest time ever. Barry replied with, “8, I had a good time, but it was tiring, cold, and I got sick from it. Everything else was really good, though” (Barry). She was then asked what activities she experienced at Camp Casey, in which she brought to light, “A lot of activities, hiking, flying kites, beach walk, scavenger hunt, survival training, meet ups in the auditorium where we would listened to music and watched counselor skits” (Barry).
Barry was then requested to advise the future possible counselors on how to apply and how to prepare themselves for Camp Casey. Barry warned, “Being tired a lot because it is really tiring being on your feet all day, and keeping up with the kids energy. Be aware that getting sick is a possibility” (Barry). She continued to suggest for future possible counselors, “If people are looking to apply, they definitely should. They should make sure their attendance and recommendations are good. It is such a fun trip because it’s without your phones and your hanging out with kids” (Barry).
For a personal questionnaire, Barry was quarried about her favorite and least favorite parts of Camp Casey. Barry admitted, “My favorite part was my campers because they were so much fun; being able to dress up with them in our fun costumes. My least favorite part was waking up so early and not having enough time to really get ready” (Barry). She disclosed one last piece of information retaining to whether or not she will be applying next year for her senior year, she responded, “I am planning on applying again next year for my senior year because I think it would be another great time” (Barry).
Claire Bonte was asked the same questions, she kindly offered sweet and short entail; Claire says “[her] experience was a 7” (Bonte). She explained how “fun it was to explore the local town, flew kites, took wilderness survival class and hiking and so it seems” (Bonte). Her very helpful advice is to “bring two pairs of shoes because of how muddy and wet it can be and pack lots of snacks” (Bonte). She explained how important it was to “bond with the kids to have a lot more fun” and that was her favorite part. Her overall reason to give a 7 was because of how “cold it was” and she is a senior so sadly she will “not be able to apply again” (Bonte).
Overall Camp Casey has some great ratings and a lot of fun memories for your highschool years. It really gives kids a great way to gain social skills, learn from their counselors, learn some nice historical knowledge and takes a screen break for a little bit.
