Our planet is filled with so many beautiful things and leaves you fascinated which is something that we continue to build up in our community, now with this wonderful multicultural event, everyone has an opportunity to engage in various booths which entails ones stories, customs and traditions, a lot of them being presented by club leaders. Here is what some of them thought about this years’ third edition.
Here is what one of our student presenters said about what she thought of the turnout this year. In terms of more booths, attendees and performances, “I thought the turnout was amazing. There was a wide variety of booths with so many different cultures, and you could tell they all put hard work into their boards, foods, outfits and performances. In terms of attendees, there were way more people than I thought, I just think it’s so cool that so many people want to see all the different cultures that are at Tahoma, I’m especially glad that FSU got to share their Filipino heritage with the school as well.” Senior and Filipino student union board member Leila Pineda with her take on this years annual fair. In addition to this, these member put on a dazzling traditional dance performance which is tinkling, where a pair of two people representing two joyful birds jump in out of two bamboo sticks, clapping to a three count rhythm.
English teacher and librarian, Greg Collette who started this event back in April of 2022, said in his response to my question regarding what ways this event has helped grow representation which is an issue in times past Tahoma has faced says, “as our community of Maple Valley continues to grow and families of all cultures and heritages choose to make this area their home, we are realizing that we have become more and more diverse. The Culture Fair allows us the opportunity to celebrate this growing diversity as we transition from a small foothills community to a vibrant city.”
Clearly this fair has certainly made quite the impact on the community showing other residents that there is so much more to this world and you shouldn’t limit yourself and instead take on that opportunity to learn, grow and explore. Whether you came again this year or plan on attending for the first time next year, definitely say yes because it is truly beautiful when these wonderful people come together to share their customs, traditions, and love.
