The firing of Pete Carroll was a shock to many Seahawks fans worldwide, many were left pondering the future of the franchise. It is safe to say the Seahawks have found their guy. Mike Macdonald led the Baltimore Ravens to a historic defensive performance, shutting down brilliant offenses led by the likes of Kyle Shanahan and Andy Reid. While the Ravens fell short against Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC championship game, the Ravens and their defense did the very best they could.
Mike Macdonald’s job as head coach will be far from easy, with the roster in the shape that it is many decisions on players will have to be made. Such as, Leonard Williams, Jamal Adams, Quandre Diggs, and Geno Smith. A lifetime supporter of the Seahawks had this to say about Jamal Adams and Geno Smith’s future with the team, “I think Jamal Adams play has significantly worsened and can’t stay on the field, as for Geno i’d be okay with keeping him for one more year, at the end of the day he’s not a franchise quarterback. Time will tell how Macdonald plans on constructing the future roster, but one thing’s for certain. Decisions will be made.
Roster decisions aren’t the only decisions to be made. With the hiring of Macdonald comes the responsibility of putting together a new coaching staff. Cameron Weisberg commented on a potential offensive coordinator for the Seahawks, “getting Ryan Grubb would be super interesting, he was really good for the Huskies and I think he would be able to get more out of this offense than the last coordinator. Other than the Lions passing game coordinator Tanner Engstrand, Ryan Grubb is the only other name connected to the Seahawks offensive coordinator position. Filling out the staff will be a priority for the staff as they look to enter the offseason. As rumors begin to fly, buckle up for a wild offseason as the Seahawks attempt to return to their throne in the NFC.
