Martin Luther King Jr. is most known for his I have a dream speech, and The Lincoln Memorial. You might know him as one of the most well known Black rights activists, and to celebrate all that he accomplished, on January 11th we had the Martin Luther King assembly which was hosted and planned by the Black student union.
Today we’re going to be talking to Ms. Leford and some of the student union members about who Martin Luther King Jr. was and what this assembly means as a part of American history.
Martin Luther King Jr., a pivotal figure in the American civil rights movement, dedicated his life to advocating for racial equality and justice. Born on January 15, 1929, King emerged as a charismatic and eloquent leader, utilizing nonviolent civil disobedience to challenge systemic racism.
His iconic “I Have a Dream” speech, delivered during the 1963 March on Washington, resonated globally, inspiring millions to strive for a society where individuals are judged by their character rather than the color of their skin.
King’s tireless efforts and commitment to justice earned him the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964, solidifying his legacy as a symbol of hope and progress in the ongoing fight against discrimination.

To Celebrate all of MLK’s accomplishments and achievements that are still recognized to today, there was an assembly here at Tahoma high school where members of th Black students union put together. They talk about equality and diversity, and hope that everyone from that assembly learned and got to hear more about one of America’s most well known activist.
