The game everyone’s been waiting for is finally upon us, the Washington Huskies vs the Michigan Wolverines. Two undefeated teams battling it out in College Football’s biggest game, for the right to call themselves national champions.
Previewing a game is impossible without identifying the possible game plan of each team, after Michigan’s dominant defensive performance against Alabama in the Rose Bowl it’s clear to everyone how they will attack the Huskies. Expect Michigan to try and create pressure by attacking the Huskies offensive line with creative blitzes. Michigan’s talented corners will also have to try and limit explosive plays, if they can’t the added pressure may prove to be too much to handle for the Wolverines.
For the Huskies the plan is simple, run the ball more effectively, continue to dominate in pass protection, and get those receivers the ball at all costs. Luckily for the Huskies, getting their wide receivers the ball is no challenge. After 42 years of watching the Huskies, a die hard fan had this to say about the Huskies receiver matchup. “Oh that matchups good, UW receivers will make the big catches in the tight windows, and Michael Penix will place the ball where only they can get it.”
However, there are major concerns surrounding the Huskies. Any College Football fan would say that Michigan is a more complete team than the Huskies, but the biggest concern for the Huskies in this matchup is how will the Huskies stop the run? The Huskies allowed 6.4 yards per carry against the Texas Longhorns. Michigan’s run game is widely considered a more dynamic and explosive attack compared to the Longhorns. So, how will the Huskies stop it?
Hayden Brawley gave his thoughts on stopping Michigan’s dominant running game. “We need to just stack the box, put 7 or 8 guys up front and make them throw the ball.”
What makes this matchup so exciting is how well these two teams are playing, Michigan at their very best can beat any team in the country and the same goes with the Huskies. The best defense versus the best offense who wins? College Football fans will find out January 8th who gets to throne themselves champions.
