As we enter the new year and look back on the good, the bad, and the ugly of 2023, we also take the time to decide what we’re looking forward to, one of those things being new movies of 2024.
With the successes of 2023 movies like Barbie, Oppenheimer, Super Mario Bros., and Spiderman: Across the Spider-Verse, many people can’t wait to see what 2024 will bring.
One of the more anticipated movies of the year is the new Mean Girls movie based on the Broadway musical written by Tina Fey who also starred in and wrote the screenplay for the original.
Many people fell in love with the musical adaptation with popular songs such as “What’s Wrong With Me?” and “World Burn” and it still remains a popular musical being performed by many high schools including Tahoma during the second semester of this school year.
Renee Rapp starred on Broadway as Regina George from 2019 to 2020 and she will now be playing her in the movie adaptation. Many people are excited to see her acting alongside actors such as Chris Briney and Auli’i Cravalho.
When mentioning the Mean Girls adaptation to Gavin Aczon, he broght up the musical that will be put on by Tahoma saying, “I still can’t believe that we’re doing the Mean Girls musical, like how did that get approved? … I’m sure they’ll just censor out all the bad things.”
Some other movies that are highly anticipated are Bob Marley: One Love starring Kingsley Ben-Adir, Dune: Part 2 starring Timothee Chalamet and Zendaya, and for the book lover community, Idea of You starring Anne Hathaway and Nicholas Galitzine.
When interviewing Westin Isbell about the movies he is looking forward to this year he said, “I’m really looking forward to the new Godzilla x Kong one.”
2023 was a big year for movies but some of the other more anticipated movies had come out in December of 2023 which didn’t give them a lot of time to become popular and be added to the successes of the year.
Some honorable December 2023 movie mentions are Renaissance, the concert documentary and at home experience by Beyoncé, Wonka starring Timothee Chalamet, Saltburn starring Barry Keoghan and Jacob Elordi, and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom starring Jason Momoa.
Over the coming months it is highly likely that these movies will gain significantly more traction and join the popular movies of 2024 list.
The movie and television industry has had its struggles over the last year with the sag-aftra strike causing many issues in producing new content surrounding movies and shows but as the strike has finally ended, we are finally able to experience behind the scenes and interviews about popular movies and shows that we love.
So what will you be watching in 2024?
