On Tuesday, November 28, Nikki Haley, a leading candidate in the Republican Primaries, was endorsed by the powerful and wealthy Koch organization as their bet for President of the United States.
This comes as Haley has been a leading figure in the Republican Primary Debates and has appeared to be attempting to appeal to the broader conservative base of Republicans rather than the more extreme Trump-aligned wing of the electorate.
From the CEO and president of the political wing of Koch, Emily Seidel, “AFP Action is proud to throw our full support behind Nikki Haley, who offers America the opportunity to turn the page on the current political era, to win the Republican primary and defeat Joe Biden next November.”
Though her popularity in the polls has still staggered behind Donald Trump, Haley has the greatest lead of any other Republican in the primaries, second only to Trump.
With the support of the Koch organization, Haley will have nearly infinite funds to support her campaign as she gears up to become the Republican nominee and confront the Democratic incumbent President Joe Biden.
However, many across the political sphere have criticized this decision by the Koch organization as being a ‘bad bet’. With Haley appealing to broader conservatives she ostracizes herself from the potentially larger MAGA base making her nomination unlikely, and her presidency near impossible.
Haley’s responses in the primary debates are often deflections and non-answers as she refuses to elaborate on many of her policies or what she will do as President. Most often, she spends the debates defending herself from attacks by a voracious Vivek Ramaswamy insulting her and her family.
Though Haley has been able to speak on her position of abortion, it remains unseen whether or not she will conform to the Republican base on the abortion topic as she has said before that she would ‘absolutely’ sign a federal abortion ban.
Regardless of what people think about Haley or the Koch decision to endorse her, however, it is undeniable that Nikki Haley does have a potential shot at the White House if she is able to defeat the goliath that is Donald Trump.
