“I thought there was a legitimate chance the Huskies were going to lose by double digits.” Said Cameron Weisberg. Yet, what a game the PAC 12 Championship game turned out to be. Throughout the season there has been one consistent theme. The Huskies perform at their best when the lights are the brightest.
They did just that, the Huskies offense totaled 481 yards and allowed Oregon’s season low of 31 points, 21 of which coming after the first half. The Huskies win vaults them up to second in the country, only behind Michigan. However, Michael Penix Jr. also jumped right back into the Heisman race. With 4,218 yards, 36 total touchdowns, and 9 interceptions, the consensus appears to be that Penix is considered to be the second favorite for the heisman trophy.
Besides the stats, the Huskies secured themselves a spot in the playoffs. However, the playoff committee has a lot of buzz surrounding them. The playoff committee decided to leave out undefeated Florida State, the first undefeated conference winning team to be denied from the College Football Playoffs. In return, with Alabama’s upset over the Georgia Bulldogs in the SEC championship game, Texas and Alabama a day later found themselves in the College Football Playoffs.
All this didn’t transpire without controversy. Cameron Weisberg, a fan of College Football expressed his feelings towards the situation involving Florida State. “Florida State was robbed, they definitely should have been included in the College Football Playoffs.” As a result, the Huskies find themselves squaring off against the Texas Longhorns in what’s known as the Sugar Bowl.
However, the Texas Longhorns and Huskies aren’t strangers. Last year the Huskies and the Longhorns faced off in the Alamo Bowl. Ultimately, the Huskies came out victorious. This left fans long awaiting the rematch we are destined to see on January 1st. With only two more wins required to win a national championship the Huskies keep their goal intact.
Will they be able to crown themselves national champions?
