The historic franchise that is Five Nights at Freddy’s has released a movie that critics have been anticipating since 2015 to be a hit in the box office. Are there jump-scares like the game always promises to have? Will the movie follow the lore of the franchise? Let’s take a deeper look into the movie and see if it’s a bop or flop.
When fans first heard of a FNAF movie all the way back in 2015, they responded pretty positively. However, after things like script changes, cast and crew changes, and production issues, the movie was delayed constantly. After eight years a teaser trailer was released for the movie fans that had waited so long for. Fans had high expectations for the film. However, some were skeptical. People questioned how they were gonna be able to fit elements from all the games plus lore into one movie. The movie did include some but definitely not all the things the fans wanted.
Reese Brawley and Annika Zegers who are fans of the franchise commented on the movie. “The movie overall did not do the games and lore justice” Brawley and Zegers said. They were also quoted saying “The movie did not at any point scare either of us.” This is one of the biggest critiques that has been heard of the film. The “scary” elements of the film ultimately fell flat and did not hit audiences the way they had hoped. They managed to make the animatronics good guys and strip them of all their scary aspects for a large sum of the movie.
All in all, the Five Nights At Freddy’s movie was alright in some aspects but did not give fans of the franchise all they had hoped for. The movie had a high bar to reach and could not accomplish reaching it. It would have to be characterized as a flop.

I agree. It was nice that they included different elements than in the games, but it wasn’t what I was really looking for. Nice article though!
