Halloween is coming up very soon, and that means everyone must prepare their best costume. Looking for inspiration? Or maybe you’re just curious about what your fellow bears are dressing up as for halloween.

But first let’s dive a bit into the origin of halloween costumes, where it all started! Many people mistake Halloween for being Pagan considering it originated from Samhain. However these traditions from Samhain play an important role in the halloween traditions. During this time of year people believed that a door between the mortal world and spirit world would be opened. If a person was unable to leave offerings for monsters or spirits they would wear costumes in hopes to scare the spirits.

I have asked a few of our bears about their Halloween customs. Let’s see what they have to say.

The first student I interviewed was Olive Standly. Standly let me know that she was going to dress up as either Spiderman or Batman. She explained that she loves spiderman, the reason being she chose her costume. “Because I’ve watched all the Spider Man movies and I love them all”. When  Standly was asked what her favorite part of halloween was she said, “the scary movies and night time.”

YiQi Li, another student at Tahoma, was asked the same questions. Li explained that this year she was being us as an angel because, “I’m broke so im using my own clothes.” Lastly Li explained that she enjoys getting candy the most during Halloween time.

Lastly I asked Emma Karaim, this year Karaim has decided that she was going to dress up as a cutesy scarecrow, Karaim said she chose this costume because, “I like farming and scarecrows and the costume is cute”. Karaim emphasized that her favorite part of halloween was hanging with her friends and the spookiness!
