Watching tv is one of the most popular recreational activities in the entire world! 53% of Americans have a Netflix subscription, and if you’re one of them; you may be wondering what’s coming to Netflix in 2023. Hundreds of new media are expected to hit Netflix this year but I’ve compiled a list of some of the most popular. 

Season four of You; the show follows Joe Goldberg, an obsessive man who takes extreme measures in order to insert himself into the lives of women he has been infatuated with and justifies his actions to himself by calling it love. The show’s previous season was released in 2021, with part one of the new one coming out on February ninth and the second part coming out on March ninth.

Season three of Outer Banks; the first two seasons of Outer Banks have been extremely popular amongst teenage audiences and the show revolves around a group of friends living in a beach vacation destination known as the Outer Banks. The new season is set to release on February 23rd. 

Season two of Shadow and Bone; the show is based on the Grisha Verse fantasy book series. The show’s first season was released in April of 2021, and the second season will arrive on March 16th. The show involves fantasy elements like magic and unique lore. 

Season three of Bridgerton; show Bridgerton is one of the most watched shows on the streaming service with 627.11 million hours streamed. The show is set in London’s regency era and it follows the Bridgerton family and their lives. The first season was about Daphne Bridgerton, the second was about Anthony Bridgerton, and the third will be about Colin Bridgerton. There is not an official release date for the new season yet, but it is expected to be released during the middle to later end of the year. 

Season two of Heartstopper; Heartstopper is a drama based on the graphic novel series by Alice Oseman. The series is about a boy named Charlie Spring and his relationship with Nick Nelson. The show was a huge success with over nine Emmy nominations in the year 2022. The second season does not have an official release date yet but it is expected to be released sometime this year. 

Season four of Emily in Paris; The show is about Emily, an American girl from Chicago who has been sent to France because of her career. The show is a romantic comedy that originally aired in 2020. The third season was released in just December of 2022, but the new season is expected to hit the streaming platform soon. 

I interviewed a student and staff member at Tahoma High School and asked which shows they were most excited to see in 2023. 

Vritika Bhuva, a sophomore said she was most excited about the new season of Heartstopper. Bhuva said she likes how “the show is really cute and takes a wholesome approach to teen romance. It’s hard to find a show that isn’t overdone and is just a feel-good show.”

Mrs. Young, an English teacher at the school, said she’s most excited to watch Emily in Paris. Young stated that she “[likes] how the show is very lighthearted, which means you won’t feel sad or upset when watching it. And in general not a lot of thought needs to be put into watching the show”.
