Tahoma’s Green Team will be facilitating Maple Valley’s first ever collaboration with the program Tree-Plenish. 

Tree-Plenish is an organization dedicated to empowering students to plant trees in their community. The number of trees planted is based on the school’s total energy consumption. 

While no specific date has been yet set for the planting event (which will occur in early 2023), the club is beginning to organize their efforts for event awareness, fundraising and working with the Tree-Plenish organization. 

The program works by the organization handling finances and some other responsibilites while the students take leadership and work with the community by organizing the planting event with the local community and fundraising. 

Tree-Plenish’s website states that they aim to “empower students to create more sustainable schools with the resources they use each year.”

Green Team will be responsible for finding the optimal species of saplings for planting in Maple Valley, and will work with local homeowners and other community members to find places for planting. 

Volunteers will be needed to plant these trees and are highly encouraged to stay tuned in with the Tree-Plenish program to look out for potential opportunities throughout the year. 

Club members will all work together to organize the planting event. Those who are interested in volunteering to help implement the Tree-Plenish program are welcome to join Green Team anytime. 

Tree-Plenish first started in 2019 as a project to offset the paper use in a public high school in Massachusetts. Since then, the organization has “worked with 300 schools this academic year and planted 49,405 saplings across the country.”

Tree-Plenish aims to bring students and the community together to offset the energy use in schools by helping students plan, market and host the event independent of the physical presence of an experienced team.
