New and Improved Spirit Days
October 20, 2022
At Tahoma High there has been a constant stream of complaints throughout the staff and students about the spirit days that have been chosen.
“ They are unoriginal and re-used,” says Maile Brilhante, a senior at Tahoma. Do we want our school spirit to be diminished by these boring spirit days?
The spirit days help not only to give support to the school but give connections to students as well.
By letting them engage with classmates on “who is wearing what” and “what will you wear next” type of questions.
Although if no one is participating in the spirit days then it does not give the connection that the school is trying to strive for.
The students have voiced their opinion on what they would like to see in the school.
Hope Hassman and Mia Coyer, both seniors said they would have liked to have dressed as your type day.
“Everyone dresses as the type of person you would have a crush on,” said the girls.
This would be a fun spirit day because everyone would get to dress a different way depending on what their type of crush would look like.
Kaycee, a junior at Tahoma said she would like to see a decade day.
“ Everyone dresses from a decade that you like,” she said. The spirit day can incorporate any decade from the past or present giving people a wide variety of clothing options to pick from.
Teachers could also have a fun time participating in this spirit day because they can wear clothes from their highschool or childhood days.
Ms.Young, an english teacher said “ I would love to see a decade day as well. It will bring fun and culture to our school!”
The students do not want repeated spirit days that Tahoma High school constantly does, such as blue and gold day and nothing but a backpack, which we have done multiple years in a row.
“I usually don’t participate in spirit days, they are boring and no one at school ever does them,” said Cole Daley, a senior at Tahoma High.
There is not going to be a good student body if even the upperclassmen are tired of the boring spirit days and the younger generations won’t participate either leading to an unspirited school.
Overall the school has heard from the teachers and the students about the changes that we need to make for spirit days.
We need to make them more fun and unique so more people will participate bringing connections to classmates and staff.
