Tahoma Bears seeking a win at Leagues
October 30, 2017
Tahoma girls swim and dive team has officially completed an undefeated regular season. Following their final dual meet win at Hazen two weeks ago, 124-62, to finish off their perfect season, the Bears look to face their next challenge, the League’s meet.
38 Lady Bears excelled through the regular season, winning each dual meet by over 20 points. With 22 girls qualifying for the League meet, the Bears work to continue their outstanding season into the postseason.
Eight freshmen, two sophomores, five juniors and six seniors signed up to compete Saturday, October 21st, at the Hazen pool. The divers had their meet the Friday before, where Tahoma senior Hayley Rayburn challenged other divers.
Qualifier and senior captain Bridget Duven positively reflects on the regular season. “Compared to other seasons, we’ve had a lot more depth. That helped us in the long run when we became (NPSL Cascade) division champs, and went undefeated.” Duven has qualified in six events for Leagues, including three for districts which is the following week.
Fellow qualifier and senior captain Kaila Steinmeyer adds on to the team’s accomplishments, “My team worked so hard and to be a part of that, makes me so so so proud to be on this team. I love all of those girls like family. We had a lot of obstacles, changes to what we’ve done in past seasons and we pushed through, worked harder.”
Head coach Mr. Dave Wright also finds pride in the team’s undefeated season. “We finished 7-0. It was the third time in school history. That was good, but we also had a lot of girls on the team, 38 total girls, and lots of new ones.” Although seniors like Duven and Steinmeyer will not be returning next year, Coach Wright hopes the underclassmen come back next season faster than this year.
Update: The Bears dominated the League meet, winning against all 15 other teams with a 56 point lead. Many girls found a new level of swimming, and dropped time, which helped more girls qualify for the Districts meet on October 27th and 28th.

I love that you wrote about a school sport that isn’t the most popular. I love to hear about things that I’m not completely up to date on. I love how you incorporated some quotes from the captain’s into the paper as well.
