The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival is back this year of 2022. After 2 whole years of postponing, cancellations, and relocating due to the pandemic, Coachella is expected to be bigger and better than ever this year. Covid-19 has afflicted many public concerts and events these past couple of years. Famous artists such as Kanye West who is expected to perform at Coachella 2022 has not put on a show in years. No doubt about it, Coachella has a purpose to bring everyone together and celebrate these diminishing years through music. Who do we expect to see performing in the next couple of months at Coachella? Famous singer-actor Harry Styles, Billie Eilish, Ye (formally known as Kanye West), Phoebe Bridgers, Big Sean, Carly Rae Jepsen, and many more to come. 

The music festival is expected to span across 2 weekends {April 15th-17 and April 22-24}. Billie Eilish exploited major Coachella lineup events via her Instagram post as she is the youngest headliner at 20 years old. Megan Thee Stallion, Brockhampton, Girl in Red, Steve Lacey, and Arlo Parks are all anticipated to perform before Eillish takes to the stage. 

Furthermore, Swedish House Mafia  is awaiting to perform, though it’s still blurry as to whether this hit group is going to be headlining or not. According to the 2022 Coachella Festival Lineup, all we know is that we are “returning to the desert”. 

As Harry Styles just finished up his worldwide “Love on Tour”, he is expected to show up this year for Coachella 2022. THS student, Olivia O’connell mentions 

“I really wanna see Harry Styles because he’s definitely my favorite artist in the entire world and I just think he would be so fun to watch perform.”

When asked who she would not like to see this year at Coachella she responds with, 

“Billie Eilish, I don’t like her music and I don’t necessarily like her, I mean she’s a great person, but she’s just kinda boring.”

Fairly enough, Coachella is a considerably more energetic event. This event celebrates music of all different forms in a highly pumped up and fast-paced manner. Face paint, chalk bombs, loud music, and colorful auras are all elements that contribute to an event such as Coachella. 

When asked who you would not like to see perform at Coachella 2022, Madi Hogberg, another student here at THS says,

“No downers, it’s supposed to be coachella pump it! You know, like no sad tunes.”

Billie Eilish is more so known for her sad music genre. As she expresses her feelings through her music, it is no doubt the tempo of her music will tend to remain more on the slower side. 

Similarly, THS student Josh Hare claims he would not like to see Billie Eilish perform as well this year at Coachella 2022.

“I would not like to see billie eilish, or harry styles, just don’t like their music very much”

Clearly, there is a variety of performers we did not get to see last couple of years that the world is enthralled to see this year. Although, there are still performers who have made cancellations to Coachella’s 2022 festival.

Neo Soul singer Frank Ocean has postponed Coachella several times within the last 2 years, he is yet to perform this year as well. Billboard has confirmed that Rage Against the Machine as well as Scott will not be participating this year as well. It’s undetermined as to why, but we are expected to see Frank Ocean once again in 2023. 

Despite many cancellations of favorite celebrities this year, there is still much more to look forward to as we get closer to April.

Moreover, when asked who you would not like to see perform this year at Coachella 2022, French teacher, Ms. Ledford, acknowledges

“Tough tie between kanye and travis scott, as it is a huge public safety hazard”.

Houston Texas, Dec 16, 10 deaths at Travis Scott’s concert occured due to stampedes of the audience. Ms. Ledford continues that it’s a concern considering the huge crowds that tend to break out at Coachella. 

More worries about Coachella 2022 consist of how Covid-19 is going to be handled. It’s apparent that more things are opening up due to the decrease of safety restrictions. But Covid-19 still remains deadly. 

Moreover, when asked how people believe Coachella will handle covid, Ms. Ledford says in response, 

“A lot of venues require you to show a vaccine card, I’ve been to Coachella before, I assume they will require to see masks and proof of vaccination.”

Considering how big of a locale Coachella takes place at, it will be interesting to see how strict business leaders take on Covid.
