A letter to Tahoma Juniors
November 4, 2021
Hello Tahoma Juniors,
My name is Kylie. I’m a proud writer and editor for Tahoma News, I’m a senior this year, and on my way out of this school and into the real world. Without further ado let’s get into it!
Juniors this is without a doubt the most stressful year you will have between the SAT and ACT, college prep, and SBAC testing…you guys are in for a rough year. So let’s start with some quick bits of advice, study a little bit a lot. The SAT and ACT are not very difficult, but they cover a lot of different topics so get ahead on the studying. If you do a little bit of studying a couple of times a week there is no doubt in my mind that you will pass your tests. The same goes with the SBAC, it won’t be that difficult. It will just cover a lot of things, so the same advice applies here. As far as college prep, you still have some time so take it easy, put a little bit of thought into the core aspects of what you want in a college, like GPA and school size. Save the really stressful bits for the summer and focus on the easier stuff now. You guys have a lot on your plate, and keeping your grades up is a must for this year. This is the last real chance you have to show colleges what you’re made of, but this doesn’t mean that you have to take the most difficult classes. What it does mean is that you need to stay on top of your workload.
Now that we’ve addressed all the bad, let’s focus on some of the positives of being a junior. You’re finally an upperclassman and have some authority at school, but don’t let it go to your head though. You don’t wanna be the know it all that everyone has some choice words for. This is also the first year you guys get to go off campus! So take that opportunity and go out for lunch, enjoy the upperclassmen freedom! Additionally, you don’t have as many classes you need to take this year, so see if you can take some fun classes next semester, go out of your comfort zone and give fashion design or metals a try.
Juniors this is gonna be a tough year for you, but if you play your cards right this will also be one of the most fun years you’ll have in high school. You’re over halfway through, and this is going to be the last major push for you to get through the majority of your dedication. (Yes, there is senior year, but trust me compared to junior year it’s a piece of cake). So good luck juniors, I’m outta here.
With love,
Kylie Miller
