Avengers: Endgame Review
April 30, 2019
After 11 years and 21 movies, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has all led up to Avengers: Endgame…and it was worth the wait.
Avengers: Endgame is directed by the Russo Brothers and stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Josh Brolin, Scarlett Johansson, Chris Hemsworth and Paul Rudd among several other stars that we all know and love.
Taking place right after Avengers: Infinity War, Endgame is a direct response to the events that happened within that film.
I’ve found it close to impossible to debrief this movie without revealing any spoilers since the footage shown in promotional trailers predominantly include scenes from past films and from the first 15 minutes of Endgame.
However, Avengers: Endgame takes risks, and thankfully, they work. The two times I watched the film I cried and laughed more than I ever have during a movie. This movie is pay off for the fans that have been invested in these films since all the way back in 2008 when the first Iron Man was released. It somehow flawlessly wraps up the storylines from previous MCU films without detracting from the action, humor or emotion. There are a few small things throughout the film that you could spend your time nitpicking, however, I don’t feel like those things took away from the overall film.
More so than any other MCU film, Endgame focuses more on the human side of the characters. This focus gave the movie depth as we were able to not only see but also feel the hardships that people are going because of the destruction that Thanos had created.
The 3 hour run time goes by in a flash and is filled with more emotion then some might be able to handle. Without surprise, Endgame smashed the box office racking in $1.2 billion worldwide opening weekend making it the biggest opening of all time. With a film with so much hype surrounding it, many might think that they’re going to be disappointed with the result… this is most definitely not the case for this film. It is everything you’d want, plus a little more.
I recommend that before you see the movie, try to come in contact with as little spoilers as possible. You also might want to brush up on some of the older movies within the MCU as this movie is filled with fan service and easter eggs. This is a jam packed film that can almost feel overwhelming at times, but each surprise left me with the biggest grin on my face and even some tears.
I wouldn’t of wanted this phase of the MCU to end in other way as they make this storyline feel complete. The only negative that Avengers: Endgame has brought to the table, is that I don’t think any superhero movie is ever going to be as good as it.
