Doc Martens were a huge trend in the 80s, and now it’s back! Just another one of those styles that reoccurred in the fashion today.

When walking through the mall, skimming through the vast variety of clothes in each store you love, most fashion items are giving people a flashback. Throughout the years of fashion certain styles have “come back”. A great example of this happening is the fashion trend that’s blowing up the charts in every store targeting this type of clothing…the ‘80s!

2018 and going into 2019 has brought back the 80’s style of loose wear and popping colors. Even if you’re not really into what the biggest trend is, you’re most likely wearing it without even knowing. Teen clothing stores today are noticing the high demand in most of their customers for this new/old style of clothing. Therefore, everything you see in the mall has somewhat of a connection to the clothing back in the day.

Fashion isn’t the only thing turning 80’s, but so is the way pictures are taken and the type of filters put on them. If you have social media you can see that many people are taking pictures with straight faces, at an angle, and off guard. This is exactly the way pictures were taken back then, and this new trend is known as “vintage”.  Everyone part of Generation Z are looking to be more old-timey and rebellious; and since the ’80s was a time when teens would rebel a lot against parents, structure, and authority, the teens in 2018 and 2019 now just want to follow in their footsteps.

The real question is where did this trend come from, and how did it start? It’s hard to tell, but there are plenty of theories out there. One theory told by journalist Vanessa Friedman in the New York Times, states that she believes this trend came from the movement for women to gain more power in the workplace and their fight against sexual harassment. She believes this because back in the ‘80s the women were also fighting for the same pay as men, and it was a large movement for them. These two movements in both the ‘80s and 2018-19 have a connection causing the styles to be very similar.  Of course, this isn’t the only theory, but it’s one of the many that makes the most sense.

Clearly, this trend of the ‘80s is coming back, and there are so many reasons why this might be happening. A question that constantly is asked, though, is how long will this trend go for, will this be the trend of 2019? Who knows, but I guess we just have to wait and see what the next trend will be.
