Have you listened to any good music lately? Has any artist dropped a hit? I know an artist who has: Tate McRae!
Tate McRae is a Canadian artist and dancer who first started writing music at the age of 14. Her first song titled, “One Day” became a hit. But her real traction began when her song “you broke me first” became an international hit, making it to the Billboard Hot 100.
Since then she has released three studio albums, one compilation album, two extended plays, and 36 singles. She has been on a roll these last 5 years. Some of her biggest hits from the past few years include “greedy”, “exes”, “run for the hills”, and “she’s all i wanna be”. Many of her more recent hits are from her most recent album, So Close to What?, including, “Sports Car”, “Miss Possessive” which shares a name with her upcoming tour, “Revolving Door”, “2 Hands” and many more.
She released So Close to What? on February 25, 2025, which quickly became a hit. I listened to the whole album with my friends and I can confidently say that I love it.
Tahoma student Lianna Sednev has been an avid Tate fan since 2021, “My favorite song in her new album is “Revolving Door”. I listened to the album the hour it was released.” Lianna loves this album and thinks that it is one of Tate’s best projects.
Tate McRae is also notorious for having an alter ego named Tatiana. Tatiana is said to be her more confident version of herself. The version of Tate that comes out during performances and dances. Tate McRae herself describes her as “ballsy, so loud and obnoxious”.
Lianna has caught on to the alter ego and thinks it adds to the album’s vibe. “One really amazing part of Tate that finished up her album is her alter ego Tatiana. . . it gave a nice kick to her performances and you can definitely hear her alter ego when she sings,” Lianna says that Tatiana helps with the song writing and confidence that Tate has while singing.
I myself have been listening to Tate McRae since 2020 ever since her first big hit ‘you broke me first.’ I love her new album and think it is one of her best works. And just like fellow student Eliana Rickard, “I am a tater tot and I’m proud of it.”
