Introduction
Tahoma Track and Field is one of the many sports that we have here at our school. The Tahoma Track and Field Team has around 250 athletes, setting a new record for our school. With all of them separating into their own respective events. You must be varsity, and place in the top 3 to be able to get points for that event. These events include sprints, distance, hurdles, jumps, and pole vault. Tahoma High School’s Track and Field season is starting up, and the coming of the new season brings questions that are begging to be answered. What should the community of Tahoma expect from the track team this season?
Information
Our track team hasn’t lost a dual meet in the past 11 years (According to Athletic.net). In addition to this, the girls Track and Field team were able to three-peat from the years 2017-2019. Given this information, it’s clear that the Tahoma Track and Field team excels. However, last season many of Tahoma’s best track athletes graduated. Even with the seniors graduating, the team still has a large variety of skilled athletes in their own respective fields. From the outside looking in it’s clear that the Tahoma Track team is going to perform well, but let’s get a perspective from inside the team.
Interviews
In an interview with Track and Field athlete Grant Simmons, we were able to learn some information about the track team and what we should expect this season.
“The track teams looking pretty good this year, we got some really fast sprinters, some great pole vaulters, some pretty great jumpers as well. We’re gonna do great. I think we’re gonna do pretty well this season.”
Tahoma’s track team has some quality athletes this season according to Simmons, but what are the goals for the team?
“I think the goals for the track team this season are to keep our undefeated dual meet streak alive.”
As mentioned previously, Tahoma Track and Field hasn’t lost a dual meet since 2014; a staggering 11 years.
“I would definitely recommend track to anyone who wants to come out here, it’s so much fun, and we all enjoy it. We all find our own events. So yeah if anyone wants to join please join.”
For the Track team to continue to crush the competition we need students that are willing to take risks and join the team. It doesn’t matter if you’re new or inexperienced, track is a fun sport that gets you in shape while also providing you with a community of other athletes that are just as passionate as you are.
Conclusion
If you want to participate with the Tahoma Track and Field team then you must have at least 7 practices to be able to participate in the meets. You can join the Tahoma Track and Field team on one condition, and that is if you tried out at another spring sport. All in all, Tahoma Track and Field is off to a good start and expected to smash the competition this season.
