With the 2025 track season coming up, do you ever wonder how you could make this the most successful season? Keeping up with your stretching, setting goals, having a positive mindset, and pushing yourself are all things that will benefit you throughout this season.
Goals
Many people strive to set goals for themselves. With goals in mind, you can further push yourself to do better at each and every race. There are more short-term goals, such as getting a new PR or mastering a new event. And there are more long-term goals, such as achieving a certain ranking or qualifying for leagues, district, state or even Saturday invites! So when you start the season, make sure to set those goals! They can be small goals or even ones that seem out of reach.
Nutrition
Another big thing that will make this a successful season for you is nutrition. By fueling your body with a balanced diet with carbohydrates, proteins, and healthy fats, you are able to fuel yourself with the key things you need for your workouts and racing performance. Many of the Tahoma athletes said they “try to eat a snack before the workout, such as a granola bar, and have something like a protein bar afterward.” Proteins such as eggs, beans, fish, milk and more, helps repair damaged tissues and build lean muscle. Carbohydrates are one of the primary sources of energy. Good carbohydrates include whole grains, nuts, avocados, and coconut oils. A big key to nutrition is also staying hydrated. Being hydrated before, during and after track practice is a key to staying hydrated and maintaining energy. And just as our coach always tells us, “a good snack after your workout is essential to replenish the nutrients you lost during the workout”.
Preparation for the meet
Preparing for your upcoming meeting is one of the most important things you can do to have the best race possible! Some basic things you can do are taper a couple of weeks before with lighter, easier workouts so your legs feel fresh for race day. Another very important thing to do is sleep! You want to aim for 8-10 hours of sleep so you can get the full rest you need for race day. Rest will improve your performance because it will allow your energy to replenish, so you have the stamina to perform your absolute best at your meeting. Cooper Boyle, an athlete at Tahoma, said “Sleep is something that I prioritize during track season.” He said “ Sleep should be prioritized if you want to have a good race.”
With all of these tips in mind, having a successful track season requires setting goals, being consistent, mental focus, preparing, and so much more. With the right mindset in mind, you can make the most of this 2025 season!
