At Tahoma High School, there are many talented athletes, but did you know some are getting ready to play D1? We took a closer look at some of the athletes who stood out the most to us, focusing on the impressive Softball and Baseball players.
One athlete in particular caught our attention : Kalani Higa, a junior softball player who is set to attend Cal Poly in the fall of 2026, and wanted to hear about her journey. Kalani shared how challenging the recruitment process was especially balancing her future career. She said, “I committed D1 in november of 2024, and the process was super difficult because it was super difficult trying to get recruited while trying to balance all of the stress of my future and playing at the same time. But I am overall super grateful to have this opportunity to play in college”. Kalani’s dedication and hard work has clearly paid off, and she’s excited to start her new softball journey at Cal Poly.
We were also curious to learn about other D1 athletes at Tacoma, so we turned to Sean Evans, a junior baseball player who committed to play at Loyola Marymount university. Sean shared his experience of being noticed by college recruiters. “The way they noticed me was by watching me play while I was in club and playing at Tahoma last spring, then they reached out to me and said I was good and offered me to play at Loyola Marymount in fall of 2024”. Sean’s talent and hard work has earned him a spot to play after his finished at Tahoma High School. There are many talented athletes, but did you know some are getting ready to play D1? We wanted to get further insight, so we spoke to Tahoma High School teacher Mr. Seger, a former D1 athlete who played baseball at Washington State University. Mr. Seger went back and told us about his recruiting process which started a few years after high school, “I graduated high school in 1993 and played baseball for a Jr League then recruiters saw me play and wanted me to play at WSU, the way I found out they were wanting me to play was they would go to my coaches and tell them i have an offer, and they would mail things to my house as well as called my home phone”. It’s inspiring to hear the stories of these D1 athletes, both current and past and their dedication to excelling in their sports. We can’t wait to see them put in their hard work this upcoming Tahoma Baseball and Softball season.
