Songs playing at the end of passing period at Tahoma High School have taken a festive turn this year as we approach closer and closer to the holidays. Most students would agree that the songs are generally helpful, so they know when the passing period is coming to an end. Some, however, are looking for just a little bit more from these musical transitions.
While the songs are appreciated, some have expressed that the same song every day of the week can get slightly tiring. Tahoma High School student Ethan Downs says “They replay the same stale songs that nobody suggests, they don’t even let you vote anymore.” Another student, Cody McAllen states, “Hearing the same song might be nice, but eventually it gets annoying, and I wish we had some more variety rather than hearing the same song all week.”
Students also want to have a greater influence on what song of the week will play. “I miss being able to vote for the bell songs, it felt like we used to have a choice for what we heard, and it sucks that we don’t have that privilege anymore.” McAllen states. Others have simply asked for announcements to change the song every few days instead of a week to keep things fresh.
Tahoma High School has always strived to cultivate a fantastic and enjoyable learning environment by holding students’ opinions in high regard, enabling them to feel involved in decision-making and their community. A simple reimplementation of the song vote could drastically change many students’ dissatisfied stance with passing period songs.
