I am currently writing this because there have been many known absences from students during Future Ready Day’s throughout the school years because students think it isn’t important. This is affecting students because they are missing out on important information they can gain from attending Future Ready Days. This is because of all the different options they can choose from, to do during that day. Some examples of what they are missing out on are listening to speakers in different career fields to learn more about their jobs or going on a field trip to a college fair to see what colleges have to offer. This helps students see any possible things they might want to go into after High School.
Next, here is some information I got from two different people who currently work or attend Tahoma High School. First is Lara Lindersmith who works at Tahoma High School as a Future Ready Specialist. She believes that “Future Ready Days are really important for students because of all the different opportunities students get to choose from to gain information on either careers or colleges”. She also says that “there are over 50 volunteers who come to the school to teach students about their field of work, 2 community service opportunities students can choose from, and 6-8 buses who take students to a College/Anew apprenticeship fair”. The second person I interviewed, Omar Rodriguez, a current sophomore at Tahoma High School, believes that Future Ready Days are important to have during the school year because “It gives students a chance to learn about different careers from people who have or are currently working in that field”. This helps prove my point that students benefit from having a Future Ready Day.
Finally, even though students get a ton of options to choose from during Future Ready Day not all students get the same options. First there are Freshman and Sophomores who get the opportunity to meet with different speakers in different career fields to learn more about the job. Onto Juniors and Seniors, they get to choose to listen to speakers, go on field trips, or volunteer at two different places. Although Juniors and Seniors options are almost the same Seniors also get the option to do their STEP job shadow or interview assignment during Future Ready Day. All students at Tahoma High School get to choose what they want to do during Future Ready Days by signing up through skyward. If students don’t sign up for anything, staff will sign them up for one of the options.
