The time of year has arrived when people are done with the school year and are ready for summer. For seniors, it is more about graduating and finally stepping into your future life. Aligned with this though, a lot of seniors go through a school slump, which can include not doing homework, not showing up, or maybe not caring as much as they did. This is known as senioritis.
Not many people think senioritis is that serious, but once you are a senior in those last months of school, you will feel the senioritis sneaking up on you. Senioritis should be taken more seriously because many seniors go through it and sometimes do not know how to deal with it, which causes some seniors to have a drastic fallout without an opportunity to come back from the fall.
An exemplary way to help seniors get out of this slump is by asking for assistance, sometimes seniors get overwhelmed with everything they have to account for next year, their 13th year. It is a scary feeling when you begin to start your life and sometimes speaking to an adult or your friends can help you clear your mind and keep you focused on finishing the year strong. Setting goals can help seniors focus on what they need to do, goals help you take small steps that later lead to a big step forward. As a senior you can set goals such as getting all the work I was assigned to done by the end of the day.
We interviewed Alexis Vera a fellow senior at Tahoma High School. He also thinks that senioritis is real and that it should be taken more seriously, Alexis stated “ I start feeling senioritis after 3rd quarter” It is key to finish 4th quarter strong but seniors know that it is easier said than done. A lot of skipping starts to take place when you are close to being done with your senior year, this could easily get out of hand because once you start skipping it becomes a habit and unless you snap that habit you’ll be at a point of no return.
Owen Hopper says, “ I started skipping a whole lot more recently.” A helpful way to stop skipping is by having a well-organized routine. This makes it so that showing up to class is a lot easier because you have it enriched into your organized routine, good sleep also helps because several people skip because they are tired, so get your hours of sleep for maximum energy every day.
