Many Tahoma High School students are taking advantage of the warmer weather by going on hikes and enjoying nature. In addition to being a popular activity, hiking helps students decompress and stay in shape. We spoke with Tahoma students for this article in order to learn more about their opinions about hiking.
The main question we asked was, “what do you enjoy most about hiking, and what challenges do you face?”
Spencer Seim, a junior at Tahoma High School, shared, “I love the outdoors in general, I like hiking, but I’d much rather go fishing. I’m for sure going to be doing a lot of that during the summer.” Spencer enjoys the outdoor experience but prefers fishing over hiking, highlighting the diversity of interests among students when it comes to outdoor activities.
Kai Thompson, another junior, expressed his mixed feelings about hiking. “I don’t really like hiking in general, but when I have to actually get out there, I have fun. I don’t think I would go hiking by myself, but with friends or family, it can be fun.” Kai’s perspective shows that while hiking may not be his first choice, it can become an enjoyable activity when shared with others.
In conclusion, there are many benefits to hiking, but there are downsides as well, which students should be aware of. Students who want to get the most out of hiking should carefully plan their hikes, pack enough supplies, and monitor the weather. Students’ physical and mental well-being can be greatly benefited by encouraging them to hike more, as the Tahoma school district actively promotes outdoor activities.
As summer draws near, think about getting out on the trails and discovering the rewards and challenges of hiking for yourself. There’s always something new to find on the trail, regardless of the experience level.
