A Long Lived Debate: White vs Multicolored Lights

A Long Lived Debate: White vs Multicolored Lights

Kamryn Raybell, Writer

For many years the white vs. multicolored Christmas tree lights have been a large conversation amongst the winter seasons. Many people prefer the classic red, blue, yellow look glowing on their tree, but the warm white style has skyrocketed in popularity in the past few years.

What seems to be the new fading tradition is going out and chopping your own Christmas tree. Over the years there has been fewer and fewer cars you see with Christmas trees on the roof. Now, most people have fake Christmas trees. The ones you buy online and come pre-snow flocked and have built in lights. These trees, the lights are normally customizable whether you want colored or warm white. But which is more popular?

Multi-colored lights are more fun and catch the eye more. Kids may enjoy this color more as it brings more festivity into the area. A lot of people mostly grew up with the fun Multi-colored lights, which may lead them to prefer the color to remind them of their childhood. But some people don’t prefer the wild look and want to add to their household, color themed aesthetic.

The cozy warm white lights seem to be growing in popularity lately. Letting the lights on your Christmas tree not be so flashy can also draw more attention to the ornaments and other aspects of your tree and area around the tree to shine through. They add that special warm Christmas ambiance to the household definitely.

Interviewing Addison Martinez, “I prefer colored Christmas lights. They show more festivity which makes this time of the year special.” Sophia Seitz also says, “I prefer white Christmas Lights. The lights give off a clean look to Christmas and make you feel like you’re in a movie, they also make everything brighter and more of the Christmas spirit.”

Everybody has different opinions on this topic. Some might enjoy both! Georgia’s Christmas lights etc. reported to New York Times that 70 percent of the lights they sell are white. But this discussion really has the world split into two.
