Homecoming Court 2022

Kaycee Kaithula, Writer

With Homecoming season on the horizon the question of who will reign as King and Queen prevails. On Oct. 3 the nominees began campaigning for their title. Positions for homecoming court include; Prince and Princess for each grade, one Jester representing all four classes and King and Queen chosen by the Senior class. Traditionally, the homecoming court is revealed at the homecoming game. During half time they are driven in a dark tinted limo onto the track and step out to present themselves in front of their peers.

The final list of nominees will be released at an assembly on homecoming week. The nominees will speak in front of the assembly convincing their peers why they should vote for them. Voting will open on the Monday of homecoming week. You can vote through an email link that will be sent by Tahoma High School.

Fortunately, I had the opportunity to speak with some of this year’s nominees. Running for Junior Princess is Rowan Gaul. She was interested in running because of seeing past years winners and wanting to participate with some of her friends. When asked why her class should vote for her Gaul said, “I’m a Tahomie and [swim] state champion.” Gaul put emphasis on the thrill her and her friends are having running together and their hopes of being “on homecoming court together” Gaul said.

Reanna Ocampo another homecoming nominee is running for homecoming Jester. Homecoming Jester is considered as the “class clown,” or the person that’s always cracking jokes amongst their peers. Uniquely, there are not several Jesters among each class, there is only one to represent all four, making the position more competitive. Ocampo is presently seeking help from friends to promote her through social media apps like Snapchat and Instagram stories. When asked why she should win, Ocampo said “if you know me personally, I know for a fact that I’ve made you laugh at least once.” Her and Gaul are continuing their campaign together with hopes to win the crown.

Senior, Anika Nau, who is running for homecoming Queen expressed  interest in running for Queen because of all the fun she saw last year’s court having. As of now she’s just having fun with campaigning and is taking it lightheartedly.

Do these nominees have your vote? Look out for them at the assembly during homecoming week and be sure to cast your votes.  Happy Homecoming Week!
