Overwatch 2 is upcoming FPS shooter being made by Blizzard Entertainment. The game is obviously the sequel to the popular Overwatch with some new changes.

Overwatch 2 has a story mode (Overwatch 2 Gameplay Trailer – YouTube) that is going to be in the game taking place after the short story videos for the story of the first game. In the first Overwatch game, stories about the game were done by short videos that released every few months or through limited time events every year. There were more stories in the comic books, but only if they were for diehard fans of the game. The story looks interesting even though there are two possibilities. The possibilities are that the story mode is released separate similar to what Halo Infinite did by launching multiplayer a month before story mode. The other possibility is that many changes are being made mainly because no confirmed news has said anything about story mode in quite a while.

Overwatch 2’s main focus obviously is multiplayer to engage in Player vs Player (PVP) modes. Classic modes like Deathmatch, Control, Escort, Capture the flag and more return along with a new game mode called “Push”. Push is a new game mode involving something of a reverse tug-of-war like game mode with giant robots. The mode recommends working as a team to prevent the enemy robot from pushing the objective while having their own robot pushing the objective.

Modes aren’t just the big deal, there are also new maps and characters as well as character changes for this new game. Currently there is only one new character named Sojourn. Sojourn uses a select fire railgun, her abilities are “Disruptor shot, Power slide and her ultimate ability is Overclock.” Changes have also been made to the character Doomfist. Doomfist has been changed in Overwatch 2 to now be a Tank class hero instead of a Damage class hero. The ability changes I currently don’t know, but they appear to be overpowered. New maps on the other hand include New York City, Toronto, Monte Carlo, Colosseo and a few others.

The main question to ask is: “Will the game be successful?” The game was first announced in 2019 at the annual Blizcon event in California. (Overwatch 2 Announce Cinematic | “Zero Hour” – YouTube) Normally a game from Blizzard Entertainment takes around 2 years to make. However, there is major problems in the way. During 2020, the development was slowed down due to the COVID-19 pandemic leaving most employees at home. Then there was another problem. In the middle of 2021, Activision Blizzard had lawsuits come in for sexual harassment dating as far as 2007 when Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare was one of many big hits. Because of this, a HUGE number of employees were happy to finally state what issues they had been through and have lots of walkouts. This caused almost half of the developers of Overwatch 2 to quit or leave, thus slowing down development of the game. Almost a year later, we now have a limited time beta and new gameplay. The big problem is that the community of Overwatch has lost a lot of people over the last 3 years, which makes it take longer to find matches in the current Overwatch. The game doesn’t even gain much attention with trailers for new events only to have negative comments instead of interest.

I am personally excited for Overwatch 2, and I can’t wait to play when it’s released.
